About Gujarat Island Development Authority 

 

Gujarat Island Development Authority was constituted as per Government of Gujarat vide resolution of Home Department No: B-5/ CSS/ 1020/GOI-10 (Part-1) dated 21st August 2019. The Authority was formed under the chairmanship of Honourable Chief Minister of the state wherein CEO, GIDB is the member secretary/ convener.


 

The Authority is formed for the sustainable development of the islands along Gujarat's picturesque coastline. Established with a vision to create integrated development with ecological preservation, the Authority plays a pivotal role in unlocking the potential of these islands while ensuring their rich natural diversity and protecting unique ecosystems.

Key Objectives of GIDA


 

  • To prepare road map for development of islands in Gujarat.
  • To prepare strategies to protect the island eco-system with all its genetic diversity including policy formulation.
  • To co-ordinate with various State Government Departments/agencies.
  • To establish management information system for the island resources.
  • Protecting natural habitats, marine ecosystems & bio diversity through regulations & sustainable practices
  • Developing tourism responsibly by attracting visitors without overexploiting resources, ensuring long term benefits for local communities.
